Justice worked in several fields including manufacturing, warehouses and fast food, but none lined up with his skills and interests. To help Justice explore and find jobs to meet his goals, his Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services case manager recommended Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota’s (GESMN) Disability Services Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) program.
In October 2024, Justice enrolled in the IPS program and connected with Sara, a GESMN career navigator, who provided him with personal and employment support. Justice appreciated Sara’s assistance saying, “She was very good at giving me multiple options and making sure I was able to find a place that accepted my background and hours.”
New job, renewed focus and confidence
By December Justice secured a job as a culinary aid at Benedictine Living Community. His responsibilities include taking orders, serving food, cleaning and helping in the memory care unit by providing snacks for the residents. As he mastered his role, Justice’s confidence and personal growth flourished. One of the aspects he enjoys the most about his job is interacting with the residents.
“He blossomed,” said Sara, about Justice in his new job. “Once Justice started working in the position, that’s where the confidence really grew as he interacted with the residents. It was fun to see him light up as he was talking. I hadn’t seen that before.” Sara added that his confidence spread into other areas and helped Justice grow in many areas of his life. “It’s been fantastic seeing the growth in him. I can definitely see him going farther.”
"Now I’m so glad to have the job that I do,” Justice added.
